If a horse has shoes, you just phone the blacksmith and he comes to put on a new set. This is the third year that Sienna has not been shod. She's a horse which has a quiet life and doesn't need shoes. It's far healthier for her, allowing blood to circulate throughout her whole body. However, this creates more work for me. I trim her hooves about every five weeks.
The trust between the two of us increases so that today it was an absolute pleasure to work with her. It takes about an hour to file all four feet. Thank god I don't ride a centipede!
Dyslexia runs in families apparently and, since Sienna is one of the family, it is not surprising that she offers the wrong foot until reminded. She's a very patient animal. In two days time we'll be off in the forest again - I don't like to ride her straight after trimming.
